A martini glass with a clear cocktail garnished with a gherkin on a cocktail pick

I’ve been busy working on a new set of pickle martini photography, and the pickle martini is the star of the set.

If you haven’t come across one, a pickle martini is basically a dirty martini made with pickle brine instead of olive brine, with a pickle on the side of the glass instead of an olive. It’s a big drink with Gen Z at the moment, and it’s a lot of fun to photograph.

Why I shot it

I wanted to celebrated the return of the three martini lunch that Gen Z have embraced! Over at AAL we are very fond of a martini or three over lunch and being able to find a good one almost anywhere in soho in 2026 is amazing! Add to that the pickle, and I am all in.

Shooting a martini

Martinis look simple, but they aren’t easy to photograph. You’ve got a clear liquid in a glass full of reflections, condensation that turns up at the wrong moment, and brine that can go cloudy under the lights. Then you need a pickle that still looks fresh at the end of a long day.

We went with a very early 1990s tilt shift look to the shot. In my mind this is the peak of martini drinking lunches. I shot these in my studio in central London, in the same bold, graphic style I use for the rest of my food and drink work, but with a slight retro twist. I worked alongside talented drinks stylist Eliza Barid. You can find her work here https://www.elizabaird.com/

Trend-led drinks photography

Drinks trends move quickly. If you’re a drinks brand, bar or agency and you want content made while a drink is still having its moment, I’m a London drink photographer shooting stills and video for campaigns, menus, packaging and social.
