This week has been mostly about the food porn, making plans and networking . I have been reading this great book about social media. If you use social media with your work in any form, then read this Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook.
I had a business meeting with this little man about organising some food photography with the very talented Holly Bell from “Recipes from a normal Mum“. She came equipped with lots of cakes and great advice. I would love to show you the cake, but I ate it all long before I thought about documenting it!
This was a big day, I achieved more on Tuesday than I had done in Months. Every now and again you receive a phone call, have a chat or see something in a book that completely changes how you think and work. I was fortunate enough to receive a phone call from a very talented food photographer who took a couple of hours out of his day to offer me some advice. Follow this up with some brutal truths from a friend of mine and I was set to make some big changes. So fuelled up of coffee and fudge, I set about changing my future.
I headed over to Tom’s house to check on some props, borrow some man tools and plan 3 days of shooting some serious food porn. By the end of 2015 I will have an entirely new food portfolio.
I put the man tools to use and made some set pieces for Saturdays shoot. There will be some really cool cake photos online over the next few weeks that I created with Holly Bell. I then headed off to a lunch event in town before going back to The North kitchen and Bar in the west end of Leicester to photograph a Dining on a Diet event with Ufit studio and Joe Hanney.
I was mostly prepping for shoots. I did a lot more work in the studio and I found a bit of free time to head to Cafe Roma to unwind and top up my caffeine levels.
I spent the entire day shooting cakes. It was awesome. I am really pleased with what we created and I can not wait to share it with you!
I ran my final workshop of 2015 on Sunday, I can’t really go into much more detail right now, but there will be an entirely new set of workshops in a very different format in 2016!
I do want to let you know about my rushed breakfasts though. I often end up working until the early hours and needing to be up again at 5-5:30am the following day. I always find it really hard to get solid foods into me after this. I am a big advocate of the fat and protein breakfast, so I opt for a protein shake (This is what I use and apparently it is most suitable for this sort of thing Kinetica Vanilla Caramel ) and Coconut Oil in my coffee. Best breakfast hack ever!
