What’s in my other bag
What’s in my other bag
A while back I wrote a post about what goes into my camera bag (http://scottchoucino.com/whats-in-my-camera-bag-professional-portrait-photographer/). I spend more time with my day to day bag than anything else. Being freelance often means working in cafes, travelling to meetings as well as the usual commute to the studio. so here is ” What’s in my other bag”
I have been using my Billingham bag for about 4 years. Although it is a camera bag by design, I predominantly use it as my day to day bag. It is fully waterproof, I love the look of it and it is really well made. I often overload it on shoots throwing in 4 L lenses, 2 bodies, a laptop and all the batteries and cards I need and it takes the strain far better than my back does.
What’s inside the bag?
I have started carrying a bottle of water everywhere with me. Sometimes I get a bit adventurous and add some mint or lime to it too! Being hydrated is so important and it’s not always possible to grab a drink on a train. I am trying (and failing) to get through two of these during the day.
If you own an iphone, you will understand my plight. Keeping your battery alive is a daily ordeal. I have been carrying this tiny kit battery pack for a few years now. It will recharge my iphone once before it needs to be plugged into my laptop or a wall socket. It is a life saver.
The apple air was purchased 3 years ago. I went for this over the pro due to its battery life and weight. I have a large machine at home that I use for editing on, but this is great for looking over images at shoots and tethering to on location. 99% of the time, I also carry a hard drive around with me at all times in case I need to take some footage from someone or tether to it during a shoot.
I’ve started to keep a couple of pads with me to jot down any ideas in. Often, I have had an idea and then I’ve forgotten it by the time I get to some paper.
Since moving in with kids, I now carry a mini plaster kit (it cures all bumps and scrapes) and a couple of toy dinosaurs in case little L gets bored. I forgot them once at a restaurant, it was very traumatic so they now live in my bag. I recently put up a blog post about living with kids. You can find it here http://scottchoucino.com/5-best-things-kids/
For the last few months, I have started to carry a camera in my daily bag, this is not something that I have done for a long time. I found this Olympus mju 2 in a charity shop for £2. It now goes everywhere with me.
Finally, I have some breath mints. I drink a lot of coffee and not everyone is as pro coffee breath as I am.
